Yingwei Yang, PhD, CPH, CHES
Dr. Yingwei Yang is an Assistant Professor at The University of Alabama (UA) Department of Health Science. Prior to UA, Dr. Yang served as a postdoc associate and project manager at Duke University Social Science Research Institute. Dr. Yang gained her PhD in Public Health from University of South Florida, and MSc in Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health from Peking University.
Dr. Yang's research and scholarship focus on youth mental and behavioral health by using mixed-methods theory-driven approaches. Her specific interests include the assessment of interconnections between youth violence experiences, suicidal behaviors, substance use, and firearm carriage via advanced statistical techniques (e.g., structural equation modeling), as well as the exploration of social, community, and family-level risk and resilience factors contributing to youth risk behaviors and mental health issues through participatory qualitative methods (e.g., photovoice).
